Penkenbahn valley station

The Penkenbahn is a tricable gondola lift built in 2015 by Mayrhofer Bergbahnen AG in Mayrhofen, which runs up the Penken Mountain in Austria

HAHN Louvres in the valley station – because first impressions count!

Originally built in 1953-1954, the Penkenbahn has meanwhile been rebuilt for the third time and has been expanded to match the train's capacity to today's requirements. In both summer and winter you can reach a ski or hiking area that is shared by several lift companies.

The new 3S Penkenbahn was opened under blue skies and sunshine. With comfortable cabins, panoramic windows and WLAN, the newly designed valley and mountain stations as well as the innovative access system, the Penkenbahn sets completely new standards. The doubling of the transport capacity and the significant reduction at the journey time to barely more than eight minutes are further highlights of the most modern gondola lift concept in the world.

"The situation"

The Valley Station invigorates the public space in which it is located. The parking area is not the usual barren purgatory between you and the ski paradise. You find yourself in the middle of a winter sports resort, enclosed on all sides."

The attitude: "It is what it is ..." (and something more)

"In creating the imposing building, we decided to give the Technology exactly the structural clearance required, while providing the public with a space that is pleasant and appropriate for the process of boarding and arriving. What's more: we want the new station to be more than a perfectly functioning people mover that, after dark, lies dead in the heart of Mayrhofen"

Together with <link http: www.metallbau-saller.at external-link-new-window external link in new>Metallbau Saller from Austria, HAHN louvre windows S9-45° were chosen for ventilating the valley station and within the partition walls of the building.

With their neat side Fixings  and a 45° chamfer along the upper edges, these louvres ensure an homogenous facade structure.

Over 50 HAHN louvres are installed within the valley station.

They are inconspicuously integrated into the construction of the building and are part of the design concept based on the grid structure while also fulfilling the function of natural ventilation. They provide the necessary ventilation for a large enclosed area without occupying much room. On each side, only 15 cm space, inside and out, is required to ensure the fastest possible air exchange.
