Clear daylight and acoustics
Built between 1859 and 1864 by Conrad Wilhelm Hase as residence church for Georg V, the Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church “Christuskirche” is located north-west of Klagesmarkt in the district of Nordstadt, Hannover.
ahrens & grabenhorst architects planned an unique reconstruction of the sacred neo-gothic brick building to the choir, which is unique in Germany. This gave the Christuskirche a completely new inner ambience with an outstanding space-in-space concept. In the church ship of the listed building, there is now a wood-clad tribune, which rises six metres in 15 steps from the floor of the nave to the organ loft. It provides space for 300 spectators, and can also be used as a stage.
HAHN louvre windows are unobtrusively integrated into the wall structure of the tribune. For an optimal and impressive sound quality, the ceilings and walls were designed with focus on acoustics.
Under the tribune a 160 m² enclosed space was created for about 100 singers; the use of HAHN louvre windows ensures the perception of daylight conditions.
If desired, the louvres can be opened to benefit from the hall of the church space. The room temperature of the rehearsal room can be controlled independently of the remaining building.
