The DGNB Platinum certification is one of the most prestigious awards for sustainable construction and requires the highest quality of all processed building materials. With this certification thanks to its innovative design, the Energy Campus is a trailblazer for sustainable and environmentally friendly construction.
On 12 May 2016, the Energy Campus was awarded the hightest rating (86% level of achievement) which has been given to a building of the "educational" category worldwide (press release).
One of the requirements is that construction must not be too expensive: "Economic quality must be just as important as anything else" says Dr. Christine Lemaitre, Managing Director of the DGNB.
Stiebel Eltron, the market leader in housing and heat pump technology, has created a new foundation for the training of craftsmen and engineers in accordance with the latest standards for the planning and assembly of heat pump systems with the construction of the Energy Campus as a training facility for 6,000 participants.
From the very start of the project, the aim was to achieve the desired DGNB Platinum certification. Thus, in the early planning stage, concepts for sustainable building according to the DGNB were developed by the involved planners and architects in collaboration with the industrial partners.
In the facade, 96 HAHN Tairmo louvres with sun protection glazing have been used for natural ventilation.
For the installation, the frame has been selected with an already integrated clamping profile and has been adapted for uncomplicated assembly to specified dimensions already during the production phase in accordance with the facade construction on site with additional flat aluminium material.
The HAHN louvres are also coated with a special powder based on the requirements for the colour design. The connection cables of the motor are concealed directly in the construction, by means of contacts which are concealed within the frame. Direct closure monitoring is also carried out with this project via the building automation & control system.
